In an English Country Garden: Caroline & Thurston
Caroline and Thurston met at Leicester University whilst they were both studying Art & Design. It was the start of a beautiful relationship, they soon realised they were made for each other! The proposal came as a surprise to Caroline, she tells Ideal Bride "It was a very spontaneous proposal. I had been very ill and in hospital and during my recovery we went out for dinner in Windsor. We had a lovely evening and he asked me over desert. Nothing planned, just spur of the moment. It was lovely; we giggled all night."
The couple began planning their vintage english country garden wedding and decided that Caroline’s parents garden was the perfect setting for the reception. With a budget of £5-10k the couple began refining the details of their wedding, the ceremony was to be held at Belton House, Grantham with 50 guests in attendance.
Before the big day the Hen was joined by friends at Jagz in Ascot, they enjoyed dinner whilst listening to big band jazz and then boogied the night away at the club. The Stag was treated to a hot shave and hair cut at Truefitt & Hill, the stag party were then taken by limo to a cabaret and burlesque club in London, they ended their celebrations with comedy at Jongleurs and an overnight stay in the city.
The eve of the wedding saw Caroline spending the night in her old bedroom at her parents house and Thurston staying at Belton Woods Hotel, Grantham. An excited Caroline arrived at the ceremony by limo with her parents, brother, aunt, bridesmaid and flower girl.
The Brides Outfit
"My dress came from Welbourne Bridal in Lincolnshire, as did the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses. My bridesmaid and flower girl were in deep red and ivory. Wanting to keep the vintage theme I handmade my bouquet from a number of vintage buttons, beads and ribbons; it also included some of my Nan’s old costume jewellery. I wore pink dancing shoes that were also handmade, but not extravagant!"
"Our Wedding cake was a pile of beautiful handmade truffles. They were arranged in tiers on top of a vintage hat box. We had a small chocolate cake decorated with white truffle cigarillos and more of the truffles on top (so we had something to cut). The George in Leadenham provided us with BBQ and a variety of Salads. They were very reasonable and even provided us with table linen, cutlery, crokery and some extra tables at no cost. In addition to that friends and family all chipped in with home made cakes and treats."
The First Dance
"Our first dance was Kevin Spacey’s cover of La Mer (Beyond the sea). We had been taking Ceroc lessons running up to the wedding and our teacher did help us put a number together. We thought it would be fun and hopefully our guests enjoyed it."
"Our wedding was very homemade and we had a lot of help from friends and family who all chipped making favours, Ironing table cloths, decorating the garden and marquee, slicing strawberries and much much more to help us create a wonderful day. Their involvement and support was the best part of both mine and Thurston’s day and we want to say a big thank you to everyone!"
