Winter Wonderland: Carol & Jonathan
Carol & Jonathan met in February 2003 whilst both working for the same company. When their office closed in the June of that year Jonathan & Carol stayed in touch, by November 2003 the pair were officially an item. The following Valentines day Carol drove Jonathan to Tees Barrage in Stockton for a picnic and champagne, it was during the picnic that Carol popped the question with a ring! Carol chose this setting for the proposal as The Tees Barrage is sentimental to Jonathan as he worked on the project to build it.
The couple began planning their winter wonderland wedding, they chose a colour scheme of gold and claret, booked their venue at Matfen Hall Golf and Hotel, Northumberland and sent the invitations to the 59 day guests, a further 60 attended the evening reception. All that was left to do was celebrate at their Hen and Stag parties, Carol’s Hen party took place at a champagne bar in Newcastle upon Tyne with a handful of friends, "many couldn’t make it because of the extreme snow!" Carol says of Jonathan’s Stag party "Jonathan and the lads went to Leeds on 11th December for 1 night, and I still don’t know all the stories!"
The night before the wedding Carol her eldest daughter and 4 of her best friends headed to the venue, where they had a delightful meal and drinks and stayed the night. Jonathan spent the night at home with the couples youngest daughter and arrived at the Venue the next morning.
The Brides Outfit
"My wedding dress was designed by Benjamin Roberts and I teamed the dress with a pair of gold peep toe shoes from French Connection. The Bridesmaids dresses were claret, fitted to below waist and were designed by Dessy. My two year old flower girl wore a dress hand made by the lady who altered my wedding dress, in the same fabric as my gold gown. Both mine and the Bridesmaids bouquets were supplied by Marselle at Atelier de Fleurs."
"Catering was provided by Matfen Hall, on arrival our guest had mulled wine, we then had 3 course meal which was Plum Tomato and Roast Pepper Gallett with Basil Pesto, Roast Sirloin Beef and Yorkshire Puddings and dessert was Blackcurrant Cheesecake with Sorbet. After the meal our guests enjoyed tea or coffee with mints.
"Our wedding cake was in keeping with your colour scheme, we chose 4 circular tiers in ivory with claret ribbon and bows. The cake was supplied by Celebration Wedding Cakes in Peterlee."
The First Dance
"Our first dance as husband and wife was to First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by George Michael."
"My main memories of the day are coming down the grand staircase into the great hall, with all our friends and family looking up at me, to Adele’s song ‘Make You Feel My Love’, saying our vows in front of a roaring open fire and huge Christmas tree, messing around in the snow outside with photographers but not feeling the cold one little bit. We had speeches after our meal and I feel my embarrassing moments were made more of than the grooms!"
"One thing that really comes to light is the wonderful friends and family we have, my mother is terminally ill, and was unable to look after our 2 year old at the night-time, so our best friends each took it in turn for an hour each to look after Ava whilst she was sleeping in the honeymoon suite!"
|The Budget||£10,000 to £15,000|
|The Location||Matfen Hall Golf and Hotel, Northumberland|
|No. of guests||59 to day, further 60 to evening|
|The Honeymoon||We hoping to have a belated honeymoon in Disneyland Paris!|
