A Valentine Wedding: Kate & Andy
Kate (32) met Andy (35) in a local pub in Macclesfield in December 2007, where she was enjoying a drink with her best friend and Andy was on a lads night out. Kate says "My friend and I ended up gatecrashing their lads night out – oops! It was definitely love at first sight!" Just 3 months after their intial meeting the couple were engaged, Andy popped the question on a snowboarding holiday with friends in Bulgaria.
Kate recalls "Halfway through our holiday I had a bad fall so couldn’t go snowboarding the next day. Andy stayed with me and we had the most wonderful day walking (well I was hobbling) around the gorgeous mountain village, we had a fantastic lunch together and in the evening we went on a traditional Bulgarian night out. We’d had such an amazing day when we got back to the hotel Andy whisked me back to our room, sat me on the bed and got down on one knee and proposed! I was so happy I asked him to ask me again, just to make sure I’d heard right! I always wanted my mum’s diamond ring to be my engagement ring, which I always wore on my right hand, so Andy took it and put it on my finger so I had my engagement ring right away!! We went back to meet our friends at the hotel bar to celebrate! They didn’t have any champagne so we had a few bottles of red wine instead!"
The couple had two Stag and Hen parties each! Kate’s involved a trip to London to see the Dirty Dancing musical and lots of shopping, eating and drinking. She also celebrated at Tiger Tiger in Manchester. Andy’s Stag parties involved drinking, clay pigeon shooting and a tribute band.
With their budget set at £5-10k, their guests invited; the couple decided on a butterfly theme for their valentines day wedding at Adlington Hall. Kate says "The theme to our wedding was butterflies, mainly because Andy has a sleeve tattoo and one of my favourite parts of it is a butterfly. I actually copied the same butterfly and used it on all of our wedding stationery! The colour scheme was pale pink, hot-chocolate brown, ivory and chocolate brown."
After Andy spending the night at home with the couples son Bradley and Kate spending the night in her old bedroom at her parents house, they made their way to the Adlington Hall in seperate limosuines. Andy arrived in a black stretch Audi Q7 with his best man, ushers, page boys(Bradley was one of our page boys) and his mum and Kate arrived in a white stretch Chrysler 300 with her bridesmaids and parents. Kate tells Ideal Bride "It was so lovely all being together in the car, I think it helped calm my nerves."
The Brides Outfit
Kate initally wanted to make her own dress, having made her sisters 5 years before, but decided it might just send her over the edge! Instead she happily went dress shopping and chose ‘Victoria’ by Lucca Scandanavian Designs, Kate says "I fell in love with the dress as soon as i saw it." Kate teamed the dress with silver/white leather shoes by LK Bennett. Kate was accompanied down the aisle by her bridesmaids who wore mocha dresses with pink sashes and flower girls who wore white dress with pink sashes.
"While our photos were being taken we had drinks and canapes; on a very cold winter’s day the hot mulled wine went down a treat! For our Wedding Breakfast we had leek & potato soup to start, roast chicken dinner and fresh fruit pavlova. We had a buffet in the evening but I didn’t get chance to have a bite to eat! Our wedding cake was a mix of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, with a heart shape chocolate cake on top, the cake was made by my very talented sister and brother in law"
The First Dance
The newlyweds chose ‘Rule The World’ by Take That for their first dance, although Kate recalls "our first dance was not choreographed, it was more of a shuffle, Andy is not one for dancing!"
"The most memorable ‘out of the ordinary’ part of our wedding was my dad’s speech, as part of it he’d got a few key members of our family to hand out to all our guests (and us) a brightly coloured feather duster and song words. The song was ‘Happiness’ by Ken Dodd. The venue played the music and my dad got everyone to sing along! It certainly got everyone laughing and joining in and we’ll always remember it! I remember being completely happy that I had married the most wonderful man in the world and we were surrounded by all our family and friends, we will always cherish the day."
